BEFORE YOU START
BRAINSTORM! Write down everything you know about bacteria- what do you want to find out more about? What don’t you know but like to find out on? Look at the work you've done in class to topics or phrases you don’t fully understand - what on the Pathfinder page could help you with your knowledge?
LOOK! Have a look around the Pathfinder page. There is a lot of information here. What best helps you learn? Reading from a book? Looking at an animation? Reading about new discoveries in science? Take your time looking through what you come across and make sure it’s RELEVANT - will it help you in your work?
THINK! Have a think about what you’re reading when you’re reading it. Some information can look complex but you do have the skills to make your reading easier. Look for the keywords in your readings - is what you’re reading always RELEVANT (i.e. have to do with your topic)? All the sources on this Pathfinder have to do with bacteria - if you’re reading something you know already you may want to skip to a section that interests you more. Don’t waste time on things you already know, but make sure you don’t skip important information. Make a list of words you come across that you’d like to find out about and explore.
DO! When you’re putting your information together for an essay or presentation, note where you’re getting your information from. Don’t copy or just cut and paste. The important thing for you is to understand and not recite. The sources provided here give you the knowledge on the topic, and it’s YOUR understanding which is important. Remember - whenever you’re confused by something, stop and think, don’t worry or skip over something just because it looks too hard. You’re capable and have all the resources at hand. Take notes and ADD to the information you already know. Highlight important phrases, terms and diagrams that will help YOU explain your chosen bacteria.
